An Em Algorithm for Hawkes Process

چکیده

This manuscript addresses the EM algorithm developed in Halpin & De Boeck (in press). The runtime of the algorithm grows quadratically in the number of observations, making its application to large data sets impractical. A strategy for improving efficiency is introduced, and this results in linear growth for many applications. The performance of the modified algorithm is assessed using data simulation.

Modelling Dyadic Interaction with Hawkes Process

We apply Hawkes process to the analysis of dyadic interaction. Hawkes process is applicable to excitatory interactions, wherein the actions of each individual increase the probability of further actions in the near future. We consider the representation of Hawkes process both as a conditional intensity function and as a cluster Poisson process. The former treats the probability of an action in ...

A Nonparametric EM algorithm for Multiscale Hawkes Processes

Estimating the conditional intensity of a self-exciting point process is particularly challenging when both exogenous and endogenous effects play a role in clustering. We propose maximum penalized likelihood estimation as a method for simultaneously estimating the background rate and the triggering density of Hawkes process intensities that vary over multiple time scales. We compare the accurac...

A Dirichlet Mixture Model of Hawkes Processes for Event Sequence Clustering

We propose an effective method to solve the event sequence clustering problems based on a novel Dirichlet mixture model of a special but significant type of point processes — Hawkes process. In this model, each event sequence belonging to a cluster is generated via the same Hawkes process with specific parameters, and different clusters correspond to different Hawkes processes. The prior distri...

Improving social harm indices with a modulated Hawkes process

Communities are adversely affected by heterogeneous social harm events, e.g. crime, traffic crashes, medical emergencies, drug use. Police, fire, health and social service departments are tasked with mitigating social harm through various types of interventions. While social harm indices have been proposed for allocating resources to spatially fixed hotspots, the risk of social harm events is d...

Learning from Clinical Judgments: Semi-Markov-Modulated Marked Hawkes Processes for Risk Prognosis

Critically ill patients in regular wards are vulnerable to unanticipated adverse events which require prompt transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU). To allow for accurate prognosis of deteriorating patients, we develop a novel continuoustime probabilistic model for a monitored patient’s temporal sequence of physiological data. Our model captures “informatively sampled” patient episodes: the ...
